Team

& Joyce Woo (Graphic Design)
Summary
An internal and public campaign to celebrate Black employees, communities, and creators on Discord for Black History Month.
Challenges
Align with the Discord Black and African American Movement (BAAM) Employee Resource Group’s existing theme for the month: “Celebrating Black Joy”
Create a visual theme that respects and celebrates the Black community while tying back to Discord’s brand and values
Ensure all channels of design are complementary to each other while working with multiple stakeholders from different agencies in a 1 month turn around
Results
Worked closely with the BAAM Erg Leads and the Diversity and Inclusion Team on early conceptions and feedback
Led our small team to develop a visual language of shapes, symbols, and colors that could be used by all disciplines throughout the process
Conceptualized a 90s theme of celebration that mixed well with Discord motifs and colors
Developed the title “Celebrating Black History Month” to push the past the idea of performative actions during a pivotal cultural moment (used to be only “Black History Month”)
